The procedure for obtaining a passport to travel abroad has undergone major alteration as of August 5. To apply for a new passport, applicants can upload the required paperwork through the government website DigiLocker.

Once the required papers have been uploaded, applicants can use DigiLocker to submit their passport applications online at www.passportindia.gov.in.

It should be mentioned that if they use Aadhaar for verification purposes, passport applicants are recommended to create a DigiLocker account before submitting their applications.

No need to carry a hard copy of important papers while using DigiLocker

The Ministry of External Affairs further said that if the applicants submit their documents via DigiLocker, they will no longer need to carry hard copies of any documents throughout the application procedure. This will aid in cutting down on processing time overall, which is anticipated to improve the standard of the passport application procedure.
To speed up the procedure, the Ministry has invited applicants to make use of the DigiLocker service.

Why is DigiLocker added for passport verification?

According to reports, DigiLocker has been added to the passport application process to both expedite and improve the efficiency of the process.

In order to decrease the necessity for physical document verification, Passport Seva Kendras and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK) have both been established in numerous regions across the nation.

What is a DigiLocker?

The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information has established this digital wallet service. Users will be able to gather and store all of their important government-issued documents using this in a safe and secure manner. As with a driver’s license, grade reports, certificate of vehicle registration, and other vital documents, users will also have access to it whenever and wherever they are needed.

This application can be used to store any kind of document. The Ministry now permits the submission of online applications using Aadhaar documents via DigiLocker. On DigiLocker, you can securely save any kind of certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, and voter ID card.
