Coconut oil is made from coconut fruit. It contains medium-chain triglycerides such as capric acid, capric acid, and lauric acid.

About 52% to 85% of coconut oil consists of especially saturated fats called medium-chain fatty acids. It has a moisturizing effect when applied to the skin.

Coconut oil is commonly used by people for eczema and premature babies. It is used in psoriasis, obesity, breast cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support this use.

Uses & Effectiveness of Coconut Oil

  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis). Using coconut oil on the skin can reduce the symptoms of eczema in children more than using mineral oil.
  • Growth and development of preterm infants. Applying coconut oil to the skin of premature babies can improve body temperature, respiration, skin health, and general growth.

I’m interested in using coconut oil for other purposes, but there is no reliable information on whether it is useful or not.

Blood cholesterol:

Coconut oil contains fats that can raise cholesterol levels. Regular consumption of coconut oil foods can increase low-density lipoprotein (LDL or “bad”) cholesterol levels. This can be a problem for people with high cholesterol.

Dosing

Adults often consume 20-60 ml of coconut oil for up to 4 months. Coconut oil is used as an essential oil or moisturizer and is found in some cosmetics. Talk to your healthcare provider to find the product and quantity that best suits your specific situation.

Some coconut oil products are called “high quality” coconut oil, which is usually bleached, odorless, and unprocessed. However, there is no specific industry standard. “Cold Press” Coconut oil means it is pressed without heating.
